AV it! Where’s your vote going?

Why you think AV is good…. and not so good. Which side of the argument are you on and why?

  1. Against. It’s no more democratic, and bad for Labour now that the other two main parties are supporting one another. We’d attract some green second preferences, but lose out on second, third, and fourth preferences from Tories, Lib Dems, UKIP, and BNP. Massively outnumbered, and we could only fix it by moving back to the right, which I don’t want to do.

  2. I am against AV for the simple reason that under the current system, people vote for the person they actually want to win. Then the candidate with the most votes wins and represents everyone, regardless of who they voted for. The Alternative Vote relies to much on ifs, hows and maybes, with votes redistributed to your second choice if the person you actually want to win gets eliminated, and even to your least worse alternative selection if your second choice also gets eliminated. This shuffling around of votes, giving some people two or three bites of the voting cherry is far from democratic, it is a statistical stitch-up.
